ISO 9001 is a practice management system developed by the International Standards Organisation, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Accreditation is difficult to achieve. Quality control processes at the Vision Eye Institute are put in place for every procedure performed. These procedures are audited regularly - internally every month, and externally every 12 months by Benchmark Certification.
Vision Eye Institute achieved ISO 9000 accreditation on 9th June 1999, and later, ISO 9001. Most institutions simply accredit their Day Surgery. Vision Eye Institute was the first practice in Australia to implement the ISO 9000 Practice Management System of quality control in all its diagnostic and consultative work, including:
- ophthalmic surgery of all types
- excimer laser refractive surgery
- fluorescein angiography and retinal laser
- all consultative and diagnostic ophthalmological services.
